The Munster Juvenile Outdoor Combined Events (Pentathlon) took place in Waterford on Saturday 21st April. Events included 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot putt & 800m. Following up on her convincing win at U12 in 2016, Ennis Track’s Ava Rochford won the U13 pentathlon by an even greater margin. Her final points tally was 1931 points, 376 points clear of her next nearest rival. The breakdown of Ava’s results by event was as follows:
- 2nd in the 60m hurdles with a time of 11.06 s;
- 7th in the 800m in a time of 2:47.79. Her clubmate Ruth Leyden had the edge on Ava in this event, coming 5th with a time of 2:44.19 (this should have been a 600m race but, due to a mixup, an 800m race was run instead);
- 4th in the long jump with a distance of 4.01 m;
- 1st in the shot putt – her best throw of 9.28 m putting her well clear of the rest of the field; and
- 1st in the high jump – again by a clear margin with a jump of 1.45 m (Ennis Track’s Ruth Leyden was joint 3rd with a jump of 1.31 m).
Fantastic performances from both these girls – very well done!
