Gold at Interprovincial Tailteann Games

The Tailteann Schools interprovincial athletics were held in Morton Stadium last Saturday, June 24th.

Two athletes from St Flannan’s College recorded tremendous victories in this prestigious event and will now go on to represent Ireland in the Schools International which will take place on July 15th in Ireland.

Jo Keane controlled the girls 800m from the gun but had Molly Brown Castleknock C.C. right on her shoulder at the bell. The two girls battled all the way until the last 150m when Jo broke away to record a superb victory in 2:15.26.

Ailbhe Doherty was up next, running in an age group above what she normally runs but she destroyed the opposition in the girls 300m event.
She got out powerfully from the blocks winning in a time of 39.50, just outside the record which stands from 2008 at 39.46. Ailbhe was also a member of the gold-medal winning Munster 4 x 300m relay team and 3rd in the 4 x 100 relay team for Munster.

These results follow on from their medal-winning performances at the All-Ireland Schools and St Flannan’s College is extremely proud of their fine achievements. We wish them the very best of luck when wearing the green singlet of their country and believe they have a huge future in their chosen sport.
