Recently, Cathal OBrien and Samarat Saidi took part in their first Irish National Squad Jumps Training session. It took place in Nenagh with Pat Power the National Jumps Coach doing the days’ training. They are in the squad as they both won medals in the All Ireland: Cathal won bronze in long jump and Samarat won silver in triple jump. They learned a great deal and return to the club with much information for David Courtney, Alex Conway and John Conroy to absorb into the training plan! We all learn together !!
It was a great honour and we hope they will continue to develop and maybe represent Ireland in the future.
Also in field events, the second weekend of the AAI Level 2 Coaching Course took place in AIT Athlone. In the throws event group, Ennis Track throw and field event coach, David Courtney, was the lead tutor and introduced the course, and covered throws basics, shot and discus technique as well as strength training and theory over two days of classrom and practical sessions.
It all goes to show that despite its name, Ennis Track Club is becoming a growing force in field events as well.
