Niamh Markham running for DCU participated in the Celtic Track & Field International which included athletes from the Scottish Universities, Irish Universities & Athletics NI. Niamh came 2nd in the 800m and was on the winning DCU 4 x 400m winning relay team.

Kevin Mulcaire breaks 40 year old Junior Record
Kevin Mulcaire caused quite a stir when he knocked 2 seconds of John Tracey’s 40 year old junior record for the 5000m which he ran at Trafford British Miler’s Club meeting in Manchester. This is a fabulous achievement for Kevin, his coach and for Ennis Track. Coach Pat Hogan and Kevin have now set their targets on European Junior Championships, which will take place in Eskilstuna, Finland on July 16-19.

Congratulations to the Ennis Track athletes competing for their schools in the Munster Schools Track & Field Championships. There were some notable performances with Jamie Roche winning the double in the 1500m and the steeplechase, (intermediate). BRILLANT SLIVER FOR ENNIS TRACK The National Road Relay Championships took place in Raheny, Sunday, 19th April and Ennis Track sent their strongest contingent in recent years. The race is ran over a mile loop, with each team completing a 2mile, 1mile, 3mile and 2mile legs for men and 1mile, two mile and mile for the women. The Irish UAA T&F Games were held in the Mary Peters Track, Belfast recently. A number of Ennis Track athletes competed and performed very well. Niamh Markham took gold in the IUAA 800m in 2.16, Imogen Cotter was 7th in the 5k in 18.45, Darragh Lynch ran a superb 400m running 51.07 in the heats, Kevin Chesser made the 1500m final, Jemil Saidi ran 53.71 in the 400m heats and jumped 12.07 in the triple jump.

Kevin Mulcaire led the Ennis Track Junior Team to the club’s first Junior Cross Country Title. Sean Collins finished in 3rd position. Ennis Track claimed the junior men’s team category with four points to spare on a score of 23 points. DSD finished second on 27 points with Clonliffe Harriers third on 36 points. Ennis Track Athletic club was thrilled to present all the proceeds of the annual Turkey Trot 2014 to Cuan An Chláir and to be playing our part in such a worthwhile project. Cuan an Chlair aim to build and run a Day Care Centre and sheltered housing for the elderly of Ennis and its environs. Vera Dullaghan, our Treasurer made the presentation of the tidy sum of €1,300 recently. (see attached photos).

First into action was Niamh Markham qualifying from her heat in 2nd place in a time of 2:20.55. She ran a considerably faster time in the final with a very fast finishing lap to secure 3rd place in an excellent time of 2:14.94. In the mens 800m heat Darragh lynch qualified also in 2nd place in a time of 2.03.66. In the final he was very much in contention up to the sprint to the line finishing in 3rd place with a great time of 1.58.91.
