In glorious conditions a small group of Ennis Track Athletes competed in the all Ireland schools Track & Field Championships last Saturday in Tullamore (June 4th)
All these athletes had qualified via the north Munster section qualifier and then the Munster Regional section.
First on the track was Conor Devane (St Flannans College)who was competing in the intermediate boys steeplechase and he ran solidly to take home the bronze medal.
Next up was Ailbhe Doherty ( St Flannans College )who raced the 100 m minor girls, quickly out of the blocks to win a bronze medal.
Tony Odoboute (Rice College) also competed in the 100 m intermediate boys and he also won a bronze medal.
Only 25 minutes after winning her bronze medal Ailbhe Doherty stepped on the track in her favourite event , the 800 m , here she gave a superb display in taking the gold medal in an new Irish record , 2:18:18.
Ben Deasy, (St Flannans College ) was competing in the 800 m junior boys and he ran beautifully always tracking the leaders , eventually settling for a silver medal in a new personal best, 2:02:43.
Chisom Ugwueru ( St Flannans College ) had a suburb day winning a gold medal in the minor girls 75 m hurdles and a bronze medal in the long jump.
Patrick O’ Rourke ( Mary Immaculate Secondary School, Lisdoonvarna ) delivered his best display yet and won a bronze medal in the intermediate boys 3000m , also Donal Devane( St Flannans College) ran solidly in the race finishing outside the medals.
and finally, Tony Odubote in his second race of the day, lined up in lane 6 in the intermediate boys 400 m and ran beautifully to win in a new personal best of 49:99 .
