Dean Casey heads to Cali for World Athletics U20 Championships

From the 1st to the 6th of August Cali Columbia, will host the World Athletics U20 Championships.  Athletes from all over the world, more than 1500 have been preparing for this event for some time, with huge committment they have achieved the required standards and sought off stiff competition in order to book one of these much sought after spots.

Dean will represent Ireland in the 5000m and we wish him and all his Irish Teammates the very best of luck.  Watch all the action here   Results & Timetables can be found here

Athletics Ireland have put together the following agenda:-

PREVIEW: Day 1

Reece Ademola (Leevale AC):

First to represent Ireland on Day 1 of the World U20 Championships is Leevale AC’s Reece Ademola in the Men’s Long Jump. The U20 National Long Jump Champion takes to the pits at 07:45pm on Monday August 1st.

Ademola has had a strong season throughout 2022, winning the national U20 Championship title and coming within the top five at the national senior championships in recent weeks. At just 19 years old Ademola’s current PB is 7.68m.

Oliver Sweeney (Speed Development Project Track Club):  Unfortunately Oliver was unable to travel to Columbia due to an injury.

Oliver Sweeney begins Irelands track campaign at the World U20 Championships, joining the men’s 100m start line at 08:00pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

Sweeney has had extensive sprint season this year, winning the Irish Life Health National Schools Championship 100m title and a silver at the Irish Life Health U20 national Championships. While competing in London in May this year Sweeney set his 100m PB to 10.47, coming second in his final at the Be Fit Today outdoor series.

Dean Casey (Ennis Track Club):

National U20 10,000m Record Holder and European Cross-Country Gold Medallist, Dean Casey takes to the men’s 5,000m at 01:55am on Day 1 of the World U20 Championships.

Casey smashed the National U20 10,000m record at the start of his season to 28:57.32 at the Night of 10,000m in London. Continuing his strong season, Casey came second at the Dublin 5,000m IMC Meet with 14:02.28 on the clock, just shy of his PB 13:58.70.
