Ennis Track AC had a great weekend at the All-Ireland Indoor Athletic Championships in Athlone. On Saturday Niamh Markham got the day off to a great start in the U19 ladies 1500m. It began with a very slow 4 laps before the race took off. With two laps to go, Niamh took charge and powered her way to the finish line and a comfortable win. Then Tony Odubote lined up on the 60m inner track, and cool as a cucumber won the final by a head from his nearest rival in a time of 7.68 secs.
On Day 2 in Athlone, Tony stepped up to the final of the boys U14 hurdles and won in a personal best of 9.31secs. Another great achievement, but Tony and Niamh didn’t stop there! In the girls U19 the Ennis Track lass got silver in the 800m, being just beaten on the line. And in one of the last events of the day, Ennis Track athlete Tony Odubote took silver in the boys U14 long jump.
It was a great weekend for the club: Niamh Markham winning Gold in 1500m and Silver in the 800m, and Tony Odubote coming home with two Golds and a Silver.
Two outstanding athletes!
