Saturday 10th January saw a collection of Ennis Track athletes past and present and a number of committee members mark the occasion of Sean’s birthday and also the retirement (from his employment) of long serving Ennis Track member Sean Whelan. Sean was keen to stress that he was retiring from work and not from athletics and that we will see him don the red and white singlet of Ennis Track very shortly!
The night saw touching dedications and humorous stories from those who have been lucky enough to train with and compete against Sean. It was clear that Sean is very much admired for his dedication to athletics both as a competitor or for his voluntarism to athletics when often stewarding at many Clare athletic events. He was especially praised for his encouragement to new athletes. Sean was wished many more happy years running and as a token of the club’s appreciation he was presented with gift.
