Kilnaboy, October 2nd 2016

The cross country season well and truly kicked off with the now annual visit to Kilnaboy for the Clare Novice, Masters and Juvenile Even age meeting. The weather was perfect with clear skies but underfoot conditions were difficult due to the previous week’s rain.

First up were the Under 8 girls who were running over 500 metres. Faye Mannion raced home to take the win followed by Samantha Olabiyi in 3rd. The team was completed by Sarah Crowe in 11th and Rachel Kerrins in 15th. This helped Ennis track to take the silver. There were great runs also by Emily Frawley in 17th and Grace Murphy in 24th.

Next up were the boys Under 8’s with Fionn O’ Donoghue, Colm Whelan and Kyle Lillis putting in great performances over the slippy surface.

Other performances to note include Aoibhinn Delly Clarek, Meabh Otuos, Cara Kelly, Clodagh Carey, Tara Carey and Ciara Frawley.

Fantastic efforts were also put in by Ashna Rahman, Niamh Lennon, Ella Deasy, Grace O’ Driscoll and Grace Rynne.

The Boys U12’s, inspired by the girls before them, took gold with 4 athletes finishing in the top 10. Thomas McGuire led them home in 2nd followed by Cian O’Dell (4th), Eoin Lahiffe (5th), and Daire Connolly (6th). Cormac Maher finished strongly to claim 15th, closely followed by Samuel Olaoye, William Bello & Eoin Ryan. Oisin O’Donoghue & Cian O ‘Sullivan did the club proud finishing their first cross country race for Ennis Track. There’ll be many more to come.

Congratulations to all our athletes that took part and thanks to all the coaches and parents for their help in getting them there. All roads lead to Cooraclare for the Uneven ages next Sunday.
