All-Ireland Juvenile Indoors 2017

Some great results for Ennis Track athletes at the National Juvenile Indoors in Athlone on March 26th!

  • Ava Rochford won gold in the U13 high jump with a jump of 1.49m, just shy of the 1.51m national record. She had to rush straight from the high jump to the shot where, despite missing the first two rounds (leaving her with just four of the six throws allowed), she still came out tops with a throw of 10.35m.
  • Ailbhe Doherty won her U15 girls 60m sprint heat in a time of 7.90, before securing gold in the final with a beautiful run of 7.86s. Ailbhe will also contest the U15 800m next weekend – we wish her all the best.
  • Gabriel Kehinde easily won the 3rd heat of the u17 boys 60m sprint with a time of 7.22s. In the final, a twitch in the starting blocks for Gabriel earned him a yellow card, but it didn’t seem to phase him and he kept his composure to produce a stunning 7.13s finish for a well-deserved gold.

Besides those stunning four golds for Ennis Track at the National Indoors, Patrick O’Rourke qualified for the final of the U19 1500m and Ben Deasy qualified for the U17 1500m final. Jo Keane was 2nd in her U18 400m heat but unfortunately missed out on qualification. Well done to all our athletes!

See video below for highlights from the day (go to 0:13.43 to see footage of Ava’s jump at 1.43m; her 1.49m jump can just be seen at 0:24.24 in the top right-hand corner; at 6:48 you can watch Ailbhe’s 60m final; for Gabriel’s 60m final go to 7:07).
