BRILLANT SLIVER FOR ENNIS TRACK<\/strong><\/p>\n

The National Road Relay Championships took place in Raheny, Sunday, 19th April and Ennis Track sent their strongest contingent in recent years. The race is ran over a mile loop, with each team completing a 2mile, 1mile, 3mile and 2mile legs for men and 1mile, two mile and mile for the women. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This is one of the premier events in the country and several high profile athlete\u2019s were present competing for their clubs. Local teams such as Raheny Shamrocks, Clonliffe Harriers, Donore Harriers, Crusaders all fielded strong teams as did Leevale, Sligo and Ferrybank. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The ladies team were quietly confident of improving on their best ever position of 6th, and Cushla Hehir began proceedings with a blistering first mile of 5min.30sec to leave the team well placed early on. Imogen Cotter was composed and calm throughout as she gained valuable momentum for the team covering the 2miles in 11min.15sec before Niamh Markham fresh from her success in the I.U.A.A. 800m final scorched the last mile in 5min.11sec to leave the team in 5<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span><\/sup> position their highest ever position. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Their was 24 teams competing in the men\u2019s section, as the gun went off Rory Chesser ( A Team) Darragh Lynch ( B Team) and Patrick Chesser ( C team) quickly got into their stride and began working their way into the top half of the field. As the 2<\/span><\/span>nd<\/span><\/span><\/sup> lap approached Rory Chesser was part of a breakaway group of 6athletes who were closely followed by the chasing pack lead by Darragh Lynch and Patrick Chesser. Rory, finished in 9mins 35 sec, Darragh 9min 52sec and Patrick 10mins 15secs. Leaving all teams well placed and looking good for their best ever positions. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Kevin Chesser emergence as an outstanding talent was further demonstrated as he ran a sensational 4mins 33 to leave the \u201cA\u201d team 2<\/span><\/span>nd<\/span><\/span><\/sup>. Jamie Roche making his debut in this competition showed nerves of steel as he took on several more senior athlete\u2019s and finished the mile in 4mins 55secs to leave the \u201cB\u201d team well placed inside the top 10. Liam Naughton also making his debut in this event showed great strength and speed as he covered the mile in 5min 07secs. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Dara Chesser (\u201cA\u201d ) had a titanic battle with athletes from Donore, Clonliffe and Raheny and he complete the 3lap circuit in 15mins 04secs to leave the team 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span><\/sup> . Michael Carmody \u201cB\u201d showed true grit and determination as he completed the circuit in 15mins 13secs. Brian Murphy \u201cC\u201d is making a return to form and ran 16mins 33secs <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Kevin Mulcaire \u201cA\u201d showed all his undoubted talent when he ran 9mins 29secs to take the sliver medal for the team. Sean Collins battled valiantly and lead the \u201cB\u201d team to 10<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span><\/sup> with a run of 10mins 10. Patrick Quinn \u201cC\u201d made a welcome return to action after hiatus and brought the team home in 10mins 59secs to 18<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span><\/sup> position. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Donore Harriers won the event with Ennis Track \u201cA\u201d second with the host club Raheny Shamrocks 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span><\/sup>. It was a incredible day for the Club, and with the talent on display continued future success is on the horizon. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
