\"IMAG0201\"<\/a>The Irish All-Ireland Schools\u00a0Track and field championships were held in glorious sunshine last Saturday May 31st.\u00a0Seven Ennis Track Club athletes were taking part after qualifying from the North Munster schools\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0the Munster Schools.\u00a0Farouk Sobyo<\/strong>, St\u00a0\u00a0Flannan’s College was first to compete in the junior boys’ triple jump, he finished a creditable 8th.\u00a0Next up was Eoin Hanahran<\/strong>, St Flannan’s College in the senior boys\u00a0\u00a0shot put. Eoin finished 6th with a solid throw of 11:90 m.\u00a0Laura Power<\/strong>, Colaiste Mhuire\u00a0\u00a0also finished 6th in the 3000m\u00a0\u00a0event for senior girls.\u00a0Sean Collins<\/strong>, St Flannan’s College took part in the intermediate boys 1500m steeplechase. Sean gave a tremendous front-running performance winning the gold medal in a new PB of 4:29.4<\/strong>.\u00a0Tony Odubote<\/strong>, Rice College, won a great bronze medal in the 100m junior boys,\u00a0despite\u00a0a poor start.<\/p>\n

New Irish Record<\/h3>\n

Kevin Mulcaire<\/strong>, St Flannan’s College running the 3000m intermediate boys smashed a 36-year-old Irish Schools record with a superb performance. His winning time of 8:33.92 was 2 seconds inside the record which was set in 1978.\u00a0Meanwhile, Eoin Hanahran<\/strong> was\u00a0competing in the discus in the senior boys on the outside arena. Here Eoin grabbed a bronze medal with his 4th throw of 36:20 m. Tony Odobote<\/strong>, only an hour after winning a bronze medal in the 100m was now racing most of the same competition in the junior boys 200 m. Tony had a better start, and looked a winner all the way, but the gold medal was snatched from him right on the line, Tony winning the silver in 23:36.

\nJamie Roche<\/strong>, St Flannan’s College , was racing in the under 16 boys mile.\u00a0Jamie was in 2nd position right up to the bell lap, but on the home straight he lost a few places finishing 7th , a solid performance. Donal Devane<\/strong> , St Flannan’s College was next on the track for the middle distance, running the junior boys 1500m, he stuck gamely\u00a0to the group finishing 10th overall.\u00a0Kevin Mulcaire<\/strong> was back on the track\u00a0\u00a090 min after his record-breaking performance in the 3k, this time running the 1500 m intermediate boys. Kevin was 3rd in the last 100m but made a great surge on the inside to snatch the gold medal.<\/p>\n
