All-Ireland Juvenile Indoors

Some fantastic results from the juvenile indoors this weekend in Athlone. There was lots of red and white in the final of the boys U16 60m sprint, with Tony Odubote winning silver and Shawn Benson in 4th place. Ailbhe Doherty meanwhile won silver in the girls U13 600m. Well done to all!

Munster Indoor Combined Events

The Munster Juvenile Combined Events Championships and the Munster Junior & U23 Indoor Championships were both held on Sunday 4th January 2015 in Nenagh Indoor Stadium. Ennis Track’s Tony Odubote won the U16 Boys Pentathlon outright with the following results: 60m hurdles, 9.04s; shot putt, 9.21m; high jump, 1.59m; long jump, 5.28m; 800m, 2:24.24. In the Youth Pentathlon, Cathal O’Brien was 2nd overall with the following results: 60m hurdles, 10.23s; shot, 7.99m; high jump, 1.40m; long jump, 6.01m; 800m, 2:20.79. Congratulations to Tony Odubote and Sean Collins who played their part in the Irish team at Suturday’s Celtic Games in Morton Stadium. Tony was 3rd in the Boys U16 200m in a time of 23.78s. Tony was also part of the U16 4x100m relay team which brought home silver. Sean missed out on a medal in the U18 2000m steeplechase in a time of 6:46.85. Championship Best Performance at the National Track & Field

Many Congratulations to Tony Odubote on claiming the u15 200m title in a championship best time of 23.27 secs. Other notable performances include Cian Mc Donagh in the u14 1500m where he finished in 3rd place and to Donal Devine in the final of u15 1500m where he finished 10th.

2 Medals at the National Championships. Following in the footsteps of our senior athletes a number of our talented junior athletes accounted themselves very well at the Juvenile National Track & Field Championships (Saturday, 26/7/14). U12 600m 2nd Albha Doherty in 1.44.28, 5th place Ellie Pike in 1.52.22 U 16 Long jump 3rd Cathal O’Brien with a jump of 5.85m U17 400m 8th Abimbola Sobayo in 65secs U19 Triple Jump 4th Jamil Saidi reaching 12.11m and 8th in 400m in 53.97.

SIAB Schools GOLD

Kevin Mulcaire has added to his considerable tally of gold medals this year with a great win at the 3000m SIAB schools track and field in Cardiff. [spacer style=”1″] A team of over 80 Irish schools athletes will travel to Cardiff on the 19th of July for the SIAB schools international event. They will be competing in a 21-event programme and against top schools athletes from England, Wales and Scotland. All of the athletes are in the intermediate category which is U17.
